During the month of March, we are joining forces for our annual "Seussabration"!
This year our theme is Oh the Places You'll Go!
On March 2nd we started our Seussabration by having a special assembly to celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday!
Members of our community volunteered to read their favorite
Dr. Seuss book to our children.
We began the celebration by taking the
Read Across America Reader's Oath.Read Across America Reader's Oath
I promise to read
Each day and each night.
I know it's the key
To growing up right.
I'll read to myself.
I'll read to a crowd.
It makes no difference
If silent or loud.
I'll read at my desk,
At home and at school,
On my bean bag or bed,
By the fire or pool.
Each book that I read
Puts smarts in my head,
'Cause brains grow more thoughts
The more they are fed.
So I take this oath
To make reading my way
Of feeding my brain
What it needs every day.
After taking the oath, the special readers were introduced.
Our special reader was Officer Pickering, from the Topsfield Police Department. Officer Pickering's favorite Dr. Seuss
book is Green Eggs and Ham.
Special thanks to Officer Pickering for taking time out of her busy schedule and very important job to share her love of reading and help us celebrate Read Across America Day.
Officer Pickering was kind enough to leave each child a special police badge, which the children were excited to wear throughout the day. During our story time the children got to see the responsibilities of her duties as a police officer, as
Officer Pickering had a call that she had to respond to and therefore had to leave in the middle of the story. Mrs. DeFrank, our Steward and Proctor school librarian, was kind enough to fill in as our special reader for the rest of the story.

Some of the kids didn't have crazy hats, so they decided to make their own during indoor recess. Now that's showing G.R.I.T. by being innovative! |
